Before & after

From dated to five-star.

The old Crescent House website, built on Drupal, as archived in 2023
The new Crescent House website

The brief

A five-star stay, let down by its website.

Crescent House is a lovingly restored Georgian townhouse in Edinburgh, with three individually designed suites, a curated art collection and four years of Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice awards.

Their old Drupal website didn't reflect any of that. It looked dated, was hard to use on a phone and had almost no SEO: no proper page headings, no meta descriptions and a homepage title that never mentioned Edinburgh.

Our approach

Design first, with search built in.

We rebuilt the site on WordPress and Elementor, spending real time on a design that feels as calm and refined as the house itself: elegant serif type, generous space and the suites' own photography front and centre.

Every page was written around proper keyword research, and the site connects straight to the booking system the hosts already use, so guests can book in a couple of clicks without anything changing behind the scenes.

What we did

Beautiful to look at, built to be found.

  • A bespoke, modern design

Hours spent getting the details right, from typography and spacing to how each suite is presented, so the website feels as special as a stay.

  • Keyword research

We found the searches guests actually make when looking for a boutique stay in Edinburgh, and planned every page around them.

  • SEO-optimised copy

Page titles, meta descriptions, headings and body copy rewritten to rank, while keeping the warm, personal voice of the hosts.

  • Booking integration

A date and guest search right on the homepage, connected to the booking system the hosts already use, so guests can check availability and book direct while reservations are managed exactly as before.

  • Image curation

We worked closely with the hosts to choose the strongest photography from their collection, so every suite and every page shows the house at its best.

  • A journal for search

A blog of Edinburgh guides and festival round-ups that answers what visitors are searching for, and brings new guests to the site.

The result

A website worthy of the house.

Crescent House now has a website that matches the five-star experience guests enjoy in person. In its first three months, clicks from Google rose more than five-fold and the click-through rate more than doubled.
